Our school

The English proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" perfectly sums up the experience we offer our learners here, at Ysgol Penrhyn-coch. The school's strong partnership with its community enriches pupils' learning experiences and fosters in them a strong sense of belonging. Whether by taking part in the Penrhyn-coch Eisteddfod, Penrhyn Show, collaborating with Tŷ Mawr Garage, contributing to the Tincer or supporting the local Football Club, we are grateful for the opportunities our locality provides to nurture respect and affection amongst pupils for their area. The welcoming nature of staff and pupils on arrival at the school is testament to its familial and cosy atmosphere.

There are now around 95 pupils on the school register, and pupils are divided across 4 classrooms. Pupils are served by a team of industrious and dedicated staff who work diligently to support pupils on their learning journey. At the start of the school, a small class in terms of numbers provides a valuable opportunity for pupils to settle into the school. All classes benefit from direct access to the outside area. We recently invested in 2 outside shelters to allow pupils to work outside in all weathers. We benefit from our partnership with Ysgol Penllwyn by sharing staff expertise across both schools e.g. for physical education and mathematics sessions. Our spacious site includes Cylch Meithrin Trefeurig’s cabin, an adventure course, a garden, a football pitch, a yard at the front of the school and a generous outdoor learning area for our youngest pupils. Our curriculum is enriched by our outdoor area, which offers gardening experiences, studies of the natural world, and plenty of space to explore a variety of sports.

A handy location in the center of the village enables us to go for walks often. We go for a walk to the park, Cae Baker, Coedwig Gogerddan, to the Chapel, to the Church, to the village hall and the shop regularly, as whole classes and as smaller groups. Our central location means that a large number of our pupils can scooter, cycle or walk to school safely.
