Home Learning

Homework is given to pupils weekly which reinforces their learning within the classroom.

At the beginning of class 1 reading is the pupils' homework. At this stage parents are encouraged to support their child with letter recognition and as they develop reading phonetic words and high-frequency words. By the end of class 1 parents are encouraged to support their child to read books of increasing challenge and keep a record in the contact book. Pupils may have literacy and numeracy drills sent home to practice aiding them with quick recall of basic spelling and number facts.

By class 2 we encourage parents to continue to listen to their children reading, and to keep a record of this in their child’s reading record. The school’s reading contact book contains some exemplar questions that parents may want to refer to when reading with their child that help them develop their understanding of the text.

Homework will again reinforce learning within the classroom, and may be rotated between Welsh, Mathematic and English. A weekly spelling and numeracy drill will be sent home to aid quick recall of spelling patterns, and number facts. The school makes use of TT Rockstars to practice times tables and j2blast to practice spelling. Please ensure that your child can access these.

Homework in the older years may be assigned on Microsoft teams. Therefore, it is important that your child is aware of their hwb login details in order to be able to access homework. Please get in touch if you would like the school to arrange a device for your child to use at home to complete their homework.

Some pupils may receive more bespoke home learning material to aid them with an area they are finding difficult in class.
